Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East (ASE), a division of the Centre for Applied Archaeology, University College London, was commissioned by the National Trust (NT) to carry out an archaeological evaluation of a proposed car park redevelopment at Ditchling Beacon, East Sussex (NGR 533338 112980 - Figs 1 and 2; hereafter 'the Site'). The evaluation was undertaken in a single phase of work in which two trial trenches were investigated. The trenches measured a cumulative length of 4.30m with a width of 1.60m. Natural chalk geology was encountered beneath a layer of buried subsoil and an overlying layer of buried topsoil, underlying a thick layer of made ground. These layers were sealed by a layer of topsoil). |
