Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation by trial trenching was undertaken on land to the north of Clacton Road, Thorrington in advance of proposed residential development. Three 1.6m wide evaluation trenches totalling 65m in length were excavated. The removed ploughsoil was 0.3m deep and consisted of dark brownish grey clayey sandy silt. This overlay mixed natural deposits of brown gravel, yellowish brown sandy silt, and orange brown sand. One potential feature investigated in Trench 2 appeared to be of natural origin. No other archaeological features were identified. |
