Abstract: |
Herefordshire Archaeology undertook a survey which formed part of the Herefordshire Woodlands Archaeological Survey undertaken in partnership with the Forestry Commission. A rapid site identification survey was carried out in Hopley's Wood, Reece's Wood and Williams's Wood, part of the Duchy of Cornwall Guy's Estate, using a hand held Global Positioning System to record the location of archaeological features encountered. Earthwork features were observed within the woods that illustrate a long history of human activity, including agricultural production and woodland management, dating from the medieval and post-medieval periods. Recorded archaeological features include lynchets, charcoal burning platforms, boundary banks and ditches, holloways and trackways. |
