Abstract: |
Archaeology South East was commissioned by Neilcott Construction Ltd to undertake an archaeological evaluation by trial trenching at the site of the proposed Atheldene Primary School, 305 Garratt Lane, LB of Wandsworth. Two trenches were excavated Palaeolithic flint work has been found on several sites within the Borough of Wandsworth, and there are four such find spots within a 500m radius of the site. The post-Medieval period also represented potential for archaeological remains on site, with the largest of the Wandsworth and Clapham Poor Law Union's workhouses lying in close proximity to the east. The site was heavily truncated by modern made ground due to the presence of the now demolished Atheldene Centre and associated car park, and no archaeology was found in either of the evaluation trenches. |
