Abstract: |
The evaluation consisted in the excavation of five 30m and one 25m long trenches that uncovered no evidence of archaeological features. Only one gully was recorded modern in date probably related to a drainage system that laid on a north-west to a south-east orientation along the east side of the north field. The absence of archaeology within the site might be due to the use of the fields comprised in the area as an agricultural land for the past two centuries and woodland. It can be suggested that the use of the area as a woodland could be extended backwards before the 19th Century. The evaluation has confirmed the intrusion of roots heavily into the natural clays due to the general thinness of the topsoil and subsoil layers. No finds that predate the modern period have been retrieved from the site. |
