Excavations immediately to the east of the Launditch indicate intermittent occupation during the period c. 4000--1500BC. This took the form of pits and other features containing Neolithic plain bowl, Beaker and urn pottery of EBA type. These discoveries may be added to many other prehistoric finds from the immediate area made during the 1970s and 1980s. The publication includes sections on lithics, pre-Iron Age pottery and fired clay and charred plant remains.

RB and Late Saxon activity was uncovered by work in advance of churchyard extension. Mostly linear drainage channels or field boundaries, there was also an oven and a post-built structure. There is a note on brick and tile.In response to a proposed churchyard extension at Church Loke, Burgh Castle, trial excavations (1993) were followed by full excavation of the entire affected area (1994). The excavation revealed evidence for activity in both the Romano—British and Late Saxon periods. Within both of these periods different phases of activity were identified. The majority of the archaeological features excavated were linear, and appear to have formed field boundaries or drainage channels. A post-built structure and an oven were also identified.

The results of a fieldwalking survey are presented and discussed. There is evidence for three buildings additional to the two previously known from evaluation. Prehistoric, AS and medieval finds were also made.
