Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of the construction of a new grain store at Hammonds Farm. Five trenches, measuring 20m by 1.8m, were excavated across the 1860 sq. m footprint of the proposed new building. One pit or gully, of possible natural origin, was excavated at the north-west end of Trench 5. No other archaeological remains were identified. Although the site of the new grain store is situated within a landscape containing numerous cropmark features of potential prehistoric date none were identified within the development area. Many of the cropmark features are widely spaced and it is therefore probable that the site occupies a blank spot within the landscape. None of the EHER entries specifically relate to features in the immediate area of the site. |
