Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation consisting of twenty-five trenches was carried out in advance of residential development at Ongar Road, Great Dunmow, Essex. The trenching revealed a low incidence of archaeological remains, including several medieval or later ditches and small number of residual artefacts, including earlier Iron Age and Saxon pot sherds, and fragments of Roman and medieval / post-medieval ceramic building material. The results of the trenching suggest that the site has mainly comprised parkland and has never been intensively occupied. |
