Abstract: |
Archaeology South-East (ASE) was commissioned by KCC to undertake an archaeological evaluation in advance of a proposed extension to a school block at temple Hill School, Dartford, Kent. Four trenches were excavated to reveal archaeological features in 3 of the 4 trenches. Securely dated Late Bronze Age/Early Iron Age features were revealed in trench 4 to the east of site and a small gully of Late Iron Age/Early Roman date was identified in trench 1 to the west of site. A single pit in trench 3 contained five sherds from the same vessel although It is difficult to determine whether these sherds are of Middle Iron Age or Early/Middle Saxon date. Four geoarchaeological test pits were undertaken to identify significant archaeological deposits. The Boyn Hill Gravel sequence was of main interest and some units of this sequence yielded worked flint. There was variation in the distribution and thickness of deposits across the site and overall is a complex depositional sequence. |
