Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief carried out by Archaeology South-East at Petworth Boat House, Petworth House, Petworth, West Sussex on the 30th and 31st October 2017. The fieldwork was commissioned by The National Trust for the recording of archaeology identified during groundworks. A probably 16th Century kiln was recorded in the vicinity of the Boat House. It possibly serviced the expansion of the park in the late 1500's, or possibly the village of Tillerton. Part of the kiln was well worn as it saw reuse as a brick path on the way to the Boat House. Other masonry, including a wall associated with the Boat House, and two worked stone blocks were also identified. Everything was left in situ. |
