Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology in August 2019 on land to the north of Shipton Road, Woodstock, Oxfordshire. Ten trenches were excavated. A number of ditches and pits were identified in the east of the site, dating to the later prehistoric and/or Roman periods. Coupled with the findings of a preceding geophysical survey, it is likely that the remains identified during the current works represent agricultural or domestic activity centred on a rectilinear enclosure. The identification of a possible well and a cremation burial within the confines of the enclosure, along with the recovery of 60 sherds of prehistoric and Roman pottery, further suggest a possible settlement focus. |
