Abstract: |
Report considering the risk of cultivation and related factors to known archaeological sites in fields near Wick and Cropthorne, farmed by Mr Tom Meikle. It is based on a risk assessment model initially developed for English Nature by the Oxford Archaeological Unit and further developed by Worcestershire Historic Environment and Archaeology Service for Natural England. The assessment is intended to inform a management plan and an application for Higher Level Stewardship. It covers six fields in which archaeological sites were already known from cropmarks or other evidence. All of the sites had been noted in a previous Farm Environment Plan. Most of them were considered to be of high risk of erosion (truncation and reworking of deposits). The main aims of the project were to define the risk, in each case; to identify the factors that cause and prevent erosion; and to recommend appropriate management options. |
