Abstract: |
John Moore Heritage Services carried out an archaeological watching brief at 12 Norham Gardens, Oxford, Oxfordshire (NGR SP 51315 07440). During the excavation of the basements, a badly truncated linear (possibly the terminus of a ring ditch) was recorded and tested. Five sherds of Roman pottery were recovered from the feature which was roughly 2m in total length. Additionally, external works excavating the light wells and foundation trenches revealed only 19th century material, likely from the phase of construction and use of the extant structure in the mid to late 19th century onwards. There was a great deal of truncation from modern services along the eastern side of the house, extending nearly the full depth of the excavation. |
