Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed remains of Romano-British date in the southern part of the site. Roman pottery from the features occured as large, unworn fragments and, together with building materials, is indicative of settlement of this date in proximity to the investigation site. Some of the pottery appears to be substandard or waster material, which might imply the proximity of a kiln. Few medieval remains were encountered and were restricted to a ditch or pit and a subsoil deposit. It appears likely that the area had an agricultural function during the medieval period. A probable post-medieval trackway was also revealed. |
