Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation by trial trenching was undertaken on land off Badcock Way, Fleckney, Leicestershire by University of Leicester Archaeological Services in response to development proposals for new housing development March 2019. The trenches were targeting geophysical anomalies and visible earthworks. Excavations revealed linear earthworks or banks that were overlying earlier ridge furrow earthworks. Pottery sherds found within the earthworks were dated to c. 16th to 18th centuries. Only one of the geophysical anomalies coincided with a positive feature, which was a pit filled with fire cracked pebbles. The date of the feature remains unknown, but it did contain a single hand-made nail and vitrified tile or brick. The site archive will be held with Leicestershire Museum Service, under the accession code: X.A26.2019. |
