Abstract:		 A Historic England Level 1 photographic survey was carried out ahead of conversion work of these Grade II Listed stables. The brick-built stables form an L-shaped building with a length of eight bays running roughly north-south, divided into six stables (bays 1-6) and a storage area (bays 7 and 8), with two larger rooms in the northern section, one of which is currently in use as a wood store. The internal divisions between the bays vary, the majority being breeze block and one being wooden. The floors are concrete covered. The pitched roof is covered with corrugated asbestos. The rear wall is perforated by a line of salt-glazed drain pipes, possibly for ventilation. On the front long wall the roof is supported by a series of timber posts on stone plinths (5 extant, one removed between bays 2 and 3 and replaced by a doorway) and the spaces between infilled with brick, with an individual door and window for each stable. The layout suggests that this building was originally a shelter shed, which has been converted into stables in the 20th century. The roof tie-beam trusses generally have simple raking queen struts and clasped principals many of the timbers show evidence of re-use and carpentry marks are visible. The gable walls have queen-post trusses. The asbestos roof is a replacement and roof timbers in the northern section are modern.
