Abstract: |
During an archaeological watching brief at the former Woolworths building 29-30 High Street, Rye, East Sussex, during the groundworks associated with the new Rye Library. In a trench for a grey water tank the foundations of two parallel brick walls were discovered, most likely the remains of an earlier 18th century structure, shown on early OS mapping, which was demolished during the construction of the later building. Artefacts of Medieval and Post-Medieval date were recovered during the watching brief. |
