Abstract: |
A Level 3 Historic Building Survey carried out on Long Cottage, North Chailey, East Sussex revealed that the original single storey north-south range was built before 1839, with this part of the building possibly retaining the remains of an earlier structure. The east-west range was constructed between 1899 and 1910. The north-south range possibly had a lean-to structure adjacent to the northern end of the eastern elevation that was later incorporated into the building when the east-west range was built. There are two later stores built onto the northern end of north-south range and the eastern end of the east-west range. There is evidence that the north-south range of the building was re-roofed, and at this time a protective structure was also built over the well. |
