Abstract: |
A standing building survey was undertaken on Spring Cottage, High Street, Hartfield, East Sussex, TN7 4AA. The survey concluded that the cottage was built in the first part of the 16th century and then had a single storey outshut added in the early 19th century. The survey concluded that the new extension will have no direct impact on the historic fabric of the cottage. An archaeological watching brief was maintained during the groundworks associated with the construction of the new extension. The excavation for the concrete raft and associated ground-works for the footings were monitored. A single sherd of an early-post medieval 'Bartmann' or 'Bellarmine' bottle along with some later post medieval artefacts were recovered otherwise no earlier archaeological finds or features were recorded. |
