Abstract: |
During the watching brief carried out during the reduction of the ground surface to create two platforms for the construction of five houses, no archaeological features were noted. However, a linear feature which ran across the site on a north-east by south-west alignment was interpreted as a grubbed out hedge line, the remnant of which can be seen forming the south-eastern boundary of the property to the south-west. Artefacts of pottery, ceramic building material and metal objects were recovered, with the pottery and ceramic building material dating to the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The most interesting metal object was a sword still in its scabbard dating to 1800 or earlier, this would appear to be an un-wanted item from the time the property was owned by a house clearance company. |
