Abstract: |
A geophysical (magnetometer) survey, was undertaken on approximately 12.5 hectares of land located to the west of Whinney Lane, Harrogate. Responses of both an archaeological and possible archaeological origin have been detected in the form of enclosures, areas of settlement, boundaries and ring ditches. Agricultural trends can be seen throughout the survey area in the form of ridge and furrow cultivation, field drains, and former field boundaries. Across the site, scattered isolated ferrous anomalies have been identified along with service pipes and areas of magnetic disturbance. Based on the results and interpretation of the data, the archaeological potential is considered to be high in the north and southwest and medium to low elsewhere. |
