Abstract:
In the summer of 2010 Archaeological Services and Consultancy Ltd carried out archaeological excavation of two areas on the western side of Manor Street, Berkhamsted in advance of housing development. The overwhelming majority of archaeological features were of medieval date. Evidence retrieved from a large ditch, suggests it is contemporary with the foundation of the castle and possibly the town. Evidence of medieval industrial and craft activities was present in the form of pits and ovens containing environmental evidence relating to iron smithing and horn core working; and
