Abstract: |
The evaluation fieldwork comprised the excavation of four trenches. These trenches included two 30m x 1.8m trenches (Trenches 1 and 4), one 15.5m x 1.8m trench (Trench 2) and one 7.8m x 3m trench (Trench 3). The trenches were located to test the presence and preservation of structures associated to the lace factory and to provide a representative sample of the remainder of the site. In July 2022, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land at Derby Lace Works, Barnstable, Devon. A total of four trenches were excavated.
The archaeological evaluation identified structural remains which correlated to buildings associated with the Derby Lace Works depicted on 19th and 20th-century historic mapping, and one undated ditch. |
