Abstract: |
Magnetometer survey carried out over c. 4.5ha using hand-pulled cart GNSS-positioned bespoke fluxgate gradiometer system, with a traverse interval of 0.5m Magnitude surveys was commissioned to assess the subsurface protentional of a c. 4.5ha area of land at New Farm, Norton, Worcestershire. This survey expands upon a previous survey undertaken by Magnitude Surveys in 2020. The geophysical survey responded well to the environment of the survey area and detected anomalies indicative of archaeological activity, in the form of multiple prehistoric enclosures with internal subdivisions. Agricultural activity was also identified in the form of ridge and furrow ploughing. Industrial activity was identified in the northwest of the survey area, along the route of a mapped former railway line. Several undetermined anomalies were also identified. These vary in magnetic signal and shape, but none have any distinctive form or pattern which could be more confidently attributed to an archaeological origin. Nevertheless, an archaeological origin cannot be ruled out. |
