Abstract: |
An archaeological trial trenching evaluation was carried out between the farms of Burnside and Upper Mains of Asleid near New Deer in advance of the construction of two substations. The trial trenching uncovered a number of linear ditch features on a range of alignments. All of these are undated but the fills suggested they may pre-date and post-date the agricultural improvements in the area. A modern sheep burial was also identified. A small lithic scatter in topsoil consisting of twenty-two pieces was recovered from an area centred on NGR 383034 844530. These finds indicate prehistoric activity but do not necessarily imply evidence of settlement. The location was trenched and there were no features or deposits associated with these lithics. |
