Abstract: |
Phase Site Investigations Ltd carried out a magnetic gradient survey on land off Meadowlands Avenue, Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. The survey was undertaken using a Phase Site Investigations Ltd multi-sensor array cart system (MACS). The majority of the anomalies identified by this survey relate to modern material / objects, possible former agricultural activity and geological / pedological variations. There are several weak, diffuse linear / curvilinear trends of unknown origin. These do not form a clear pattern that would suggest an archaeological origin but the exact cause of the responses cannot be determined. There are several areas where very strong responses or magnetic disturbance from modern features dominate the surrounding data and it should be recognised that the strength of the strong responses could mask anomalies from other subsurface features in the area. |
