Abstract: |
Detailed magnetometry carried out over a small area of land to the rear of Gomeldon using a cart-based system of 5 sensors spaced 0.5m apart. The results indicate the presence of a number of short positive and negative linear anomalies and discrete positive responses that lack a clearly defined morphology. It is not possible to determine if the anomalies relate to modern ground disturbance, or other anthropogenic activity, or if the discrete anomalies have a natural origin. The survey also located zones of magnetic debris and disturbance, particularly in the western part of the site, and these correlate with former agricultural buildings and associated ground consolidation, as well as ferrous material within the soil relating to the site’s agricultural use. |
