Abstract: |
NPS Archaeology carried out informative archaeological trial trenching in advance of a proposed residential development at the Former Community Centre, off Doddshill Road/Manor Road, Dersingham, Norfolk. The work was in response to a brief issued by Norfolk County Council Environment Service, with fieldwork and reporting funded by Fleur Homes Ltd. The programme of work entailed the excavation of five trenches, of which only two contained archaeological features in the form of postholes dating to the post-medieval period. Significant and widespread truncation of the site had occurred with the cutting of a c. early 19th century terrace with the purpose of levelling the site for the construction of buildings which still stand at the site. This truncation is believed to have removed any potential archaeological remains of greater antiquity at the site across the area tested. |
