Abstract: |
Part of a research project: 'Extending Histories: from Medieval Mottes to Prehistoric Round Mounds' funded by Leverhulme Trust. Two power auger boreholes were put down through the motte of 'Castle 3', Hamstead Marshall, W. Berks, to investigate the makeup of the mound, recover material for dating, and any palaeoenvironmental indicators. In addition to this, a detailed analytical earthwork survey covering 'Castle 3' and the adjacent 'Castle 2' was carried out to investigate the form and phasing of the site. |
