Abstract:
A desk-based study has been undertaken to identify and understand the heritage significance of the Grade II listed Wellington Bridge. Data sources used to carry out the assessment include: ● National Heritage List for England; ● West Yorkshire Historic Environment Record (HER); ● Local studies resource; and ● Historic mapping. This Design, Access and Heritage Statement considers the heritage significance of, and the impact of the proposed LB works on the Grade II listed Wellington Bridge. The new flood defence wall attached to Wellington Bridge has been designed to reduce the impact on the historic fabric and setting of the bridge whilst still providing the level of flood protection required as part of the wider Project. Following an assessment of the significance of Wellington Bridge in accordance with the NPPF and Historic England GPA2 and GPA3, the proposed scheme is not considered to result in harm to the significance of the asset. The scheme is also considered to comply with Local Plan Policy P11 and UDP Policies N11 and N17.
