Abstract:
An archaeological evaluation was carried out on behalf of C R Homes Limited, in advance of the construction of two detached dwellings in an area of potential medieval settlement. Two trenches were dug to the natural substrate but no evidence for medieval settlement was recorded. The absence of any medieval finds suggests that this site is some distance from a medieval settlement foci. Several undated features were recorded, although none related to anything depicted on 19th century or later mapping. Two apparently linear features were unlikely to be boundaries and a cobbled filled pit may have been a sump or soakaway associated with the adjacent Stag and Pheasant pub.
