Abstract:
Excavations by Brian Hope-Taylor at Preston Hawe in 1952-4 were undertaken on a site with well-preserved earthwork remains in an area that was to be developed as a new housing estate. His discoveries included Mesolithic and later worked flint, the latter complemented for the later Bronze Age by pottery, suggesting nearby settlement. The presence of a natural pond, in an area where there are few ready water supplies, was an undoubted attraction for human activity through this period
