Abstract: |
The footings for the bat barn were excavated with a 360° excavator and a toothless ditching bucket under the supervision of an archaeologist. Where archaeological horizons were encountered they were cleaned by hand and excavated appropriately. Standard John Moore Heritage Services techniques were employed throughout, involving the completion of a written record for each deposit encountered, with scale plans and section drawings compiled where appropriate. A photographic record was also produced. The resultant spoil from the works was visually scanned, especially for finds relating to the Roman period. The development site was located in an area of known archaeological interest and as part of the aims of the investigation to be aware of Roman remains. Despite this no archaeological features, deposits or artefactual finds were observed during the monitored works. |
