A watching brief during the construction of an extension to the college revealed no archaeological features or deposits. [AIP]

A watching brief during the excavation of a water-main pipe trench revealed granite paving blocks beneath the road surface in School Lane, part of a Bronze Age barrow ring ditch and a spread of early Saxon pottery. [AIP]

A watching brief along the a pipeline trench, the route of which passed through several areas of archaeological interest, including the remains of the deserted medieval village of Thorpe Latimer, the Car Dyke and Midfendyke Roman water courses and at least two Roman site and an Iron Age saltern. Sections across the Car Dyke and Midfendyke were recorded and two large pieces of worked limestone were recovered from an area known as Poorgrounds. No other archaeological features or deposits were revealed. [AIP]

Although no archaeological deposits had previously been identified on the site of a proposed housing development, desk-based assessment identified the locations of stray finds of Neolithic worked stone and flint, Bronze Age and Anglo-Saxon metalwork, and pottery of Romano-British and medieval date in the area surrounding the development site. A watching brief during the conversion of outbuildings into a dwelling and the construction of garages recorded evidence of ground-raising in the 13th century. Residual Romano-British pottery was also recovered from the ground-raising deposits. [AIP]

A watching brief during groundworks for the construction of a house recovered the remains of two Bronze Age inhumations, each lying within a shallow pit , and accompanied by a decorated beaker. The inhumations comprised incomplete and disarticulated human bones. A third pit-like feature was also revealed, although no human remains were recovered from the section excavated. Features of Saxon/early medieval date were also revealed, including two large post holes and two shallow trenches. [AIP]

Desk-based assessment, supplemented by preliminary fieldwalking, identified two cropmark sites situated within the development area, of which one had been identified as a square enclosure. An Anglo-Saxon cemetery was also recorded to the north of the proposed development site. Fieldwalking recovered pottery of mainly post-medieval date, but also included fragments of Romano-British and Anglo-Saxon date. [AIP]
