Digital Object Identifiers

Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) are persistent identifiers which can be used to consistently and accurately reference digital objects and/or content. The DOIs provide a way for the ADS resources to be cited in a similar fashion to traditional scholarly materials. More information on DOIs at the ADS can be found on our help page.

The updated Crossref DOI Display guidelines recommend that DOIs should be displayed in the following format:

Project Structure

An explanation of the Principal Sites' and Integrated Site Reports

Principal Sites

The CTRL Section 1 route was divided, for analysis and reporting purposes, into 28 Principal Sites. These Principal Sites were named after the most significant individual site contained within a geographically defined area.

The purpose of this approach was to encourage team members to adopt a broad landscape view, taking into consideration the results from all fieldwork events within the defined geographical section, rather than focussing exclusively on the most significant individual sites.

Integrated Sites Reports

Of the 28 Principal Sites, only 20 are the subject of detailed Integrated Site Reports, see table below.

The fieldwork evidence and results of analysis are presented in the form of integrated, illustrated site narratives - Integrated Sites Reports. These reports are interpretative summaries of the site sequence, incorporating key supporting evidence and including, where relevant, the summary results and interpretation of specialist analyses.

The level of descriptive detail provided for particular site components is commensurate with the significance of the evidence and its ability to address the questions posed in the CTRL Research Strategy. The reports are cross-referenced to the scheme-wide specialist reports (which report in detail on the results of specialist studies) and the digital archive datasets (which contain feature and interpretative group descriptions and documentation of phasing decisions).

Post Excavation Assessment Reports

The remaining eight Principal Sites lacked a major archaeological focus and therefore produced insufficient evidence to justify detailed analysis and reporting. In these instances, the Post Excavation Assessment Report represents the final document and is an adequate archive fieldwork record for sites of limited significance. These Principal Sites are:

Post Excavation Assessment Reports
Nashenden Valley
West of Sittingbourne Road
Chapel Mill
A20 Diversion Holm Hill
Hurst Wood
Lodge Wood
Boys Hall Balancing Pond
West of Blind Lane
East of Station Road

Standing Building Reports

A series of 11 Standing Building Reports were prepared, describing significant historic buildings that were demolished or removed during the construction of the rail link. Five of these reports incorporate the results of directly related below-ground archaeological investigations within the building footprints (Bridge House Mersham, Brockton Farm, 2 Boys Hall Rd, Yonsea Farm and Talbot House).

The following 8 reports form part of the Phase 2 digital archive:

Standing Building Reports
Bridge House, Mersham
2 Boys Hall Road, Willesborough
4 Boys Hall Road, Willesborough
Yonsea Farm, Hothfield
Pill Boxes at Tutt Hill, Westwell Leacon
Brockton Farm, Charing Heath
WW2 Munitions Store at Fairmead Farm, Westenhanger
Talbot House, Sellindge

The following 3 reports were deposited with the Phase 1 digital archive:

Standing Building Reports
Old and Water Street Cottages, Lenham
Ashenbank Wood Army Camp
Northumberland Bottom Army Camp
