In response to a planning condition on the proposed redevelopment of the site at Hadham Garages, Widford Road, Much Hadham, Hertfordshire the Heritage Network was commissioned by the owner to undertake a programme of archaeological monitoring of the groundworks. The monitoring of the development groundworks did not reveal any significant archaeological features, other than the remains of the garage buildings, associated services and the fuel tanks. It appears that the eastern end of the site was terraced prior to the construction of the building in Plot 1, possibly in the early 20th century to construct a building on the same footprint. Undisturbed natural sands and clays were exposed across most of the site, suggesting that it remained undeveloped until the modern period. No artefacts, features or deposits dating from earlier than the modern period were encountered in the course of this project.
