In July 2017 a programme of Observation and Recording was undertaken at Barnside, Chapel Lane, Long Marston, Hertfordshire as a planning condition for the development of the site.
The condition was imposed as the site lies within the medieval core of Long Marston and is surrounded by a number of heritage assets. Groundworks consisted of footings and service trenches with some ground reduction.
The remains of a garden wall built in brick could be seen above modern made ground but this was known to be an extant structure until recently. A silty deposit of flooding was also observed in a section of the footings that can be attributed to the marshy nature of the surrounding area.
No archaeological finds or features were identified, all deposits were made ground or the result of natural processes and contained modern material.
