Full Record - Castell Caereinion, Ty-mawr

LocationCastell Caereinion, Ty-mawr, Montgomeryshire
Grid referenceSJ 172 043
DescriptionFurther to the dating of the main phase at Ty-mawr, Castell Caereinion, at 1460 (Miles and Haddon-Reece 1996), restoration work allowed sampling of later features. Of these, an inserted floor comprised of twin longitudinal beams to the upper bay is here dated to 1594. Of perhaps greater interest is the inserted smoke hood to the hall which produced a felling date of 1630/31. The later flooring over of the hall, and the lower end extension, was sampled, but neither produced a conclusive date. Dating commissioned by R C Turner for Cadw: Welsh Historic Monuments.
