Introduction

Mount Pleasant Junior School, Southampton. Archaeological Watching Brief. (SOU1744) (OASIS ID: wessexar1-292403)

Wessex Archaeology was commissioned by CDM Contractors Ltd to carry out an archaeological watching brief on works to be undertaken at Mount Pleasant Junior School, Southampton, SO14 0WZ (centred on National Grid Reference 442705 113030).

The watching brief was carried out on the 31st January 2017. No significant archaeological features or deposits were encountered. Excavations for footings were dug to a depth of 0.95m. The deposits excavated consisted entirely of modern made ground. Thereafter, foundation groundwork comprised the installation of driven displacement piles. In consultation with Ingrid Peckham, given there were to be no further viable opportunities to make meaningful archaeological observations, it was therefore concluded that no further archaeological watching brief was required.
