Overview

Whitworth Park Community Archaeology and History Project

The Whitworth Park Community Archaeology and History (WPCAH) Project archive comprises a large assemblage of inter-related documents, drawings, photographs, survey data, and finds which were created throughout the project conducted at Whitworth Park, Manchester, from 2010 to 2014. This includes the 2010 survey data, the 2011 and 2013 excavation data, historical data, and all ephemera and public outputs.

The digital archive comprises all files generated in electronic format produced during the course of the WPCAH project, and for which permissions have been granted for deposit:

  • Original Survey Data: Total station survey data from the 2010 survey and the 2013 excavation.
  • Archaeological Contexts: Scanned context registers, cut forms, and deposit forms for the 2011 and 2013 excavations.
  • Drawings: Original and digitised section and plan drawings for the 2011 and 2013 excavations.
  • Reports: The excavation data structure report; the specialist finds reports; the project evaluation report.
  • Field Day Books: Scanned field day books for the 2011 and 2013 excavations.
  • Finds: The original finds register, photographs and specialist reports for finds from the 2011 and 2013 excavations.
  • Photographs: the technical photographic record from the 2011 and 2013 excavations; a selection of the non-technical photographs of project activities.
  • Historical Databases: Databases of historical sources relating to Whitworth Park, Manchester.
  • Friends of Whitworth Park: Management plans for Whitworth Park and the design of a display board detailing the WPCAH project.
  • Exhibition: The exhibition design brief, panel text, graphic mapping, posters, and photographs for the ‘Whitworth Park: Pleasure, Play & Politics’ Exhibition, Manchester Museum, 24 May – 5 October 2014.
  • Personnel: The names and affiliations of all project members, volunteers, and students involved in the WPCAH project.
  • Public Outputs (excluding the exhibition): A public leaflet based on the results of the WPCAH project; a display board in Whitworth park (final design and text).
  • School Workshops: Designs, photographs, poems, and postcards produced during school workshops and site visits.
