Abstract:
<summary>Excavation in advance of drainage works related to the renovation of the north porch of the barn revealed a clay-filled ditch running parallel with the tithe barn, and containing 13th to 14th century ceramics. An un-mortared wall was subsequently inserted alongside this ditch, and at a later date a mortared masonry structure was built over the earlier stonework. This structure, which contained a hearth, was later disturbed and robbed, possibly when the most recent tile floor was inserted. In the area immediately to the north of the north porch, 13th and 14th century post holes and pit features were revealed. A section of barn wall was also uncovered revealing that the 13th century barn was larger, originally extending further west. Either side of the south porch, medieval soil layers, stone tile waste, post-medieval yard surfaces and walling and an early modern brick-built structure of uncertain function were revealed. A stone-lined well was also found under the westerly buttress of the porch. {italon}AIP{italoff}
