Abstract: |
Sets out the results of the first season of a fieldwork project aiming to record and interpret the early prehistoric remains in the Billown area in the southern Isle of Man. Reports on site surveys comprise: `Field walking' by Andrew Johnson (12); `Test-pitting' by Timothy Darvill & Miles Russell (12); `Geophysical surveys' by Bronwen Laughlin (12, 14 & 17); and `Topographic survey' by Timothy Darvill, John Gale & Jeff Chartrand (17). Notes on selected finds include: an `Introduction' by Timothy Darvill & Nicola King (29); `The Ronaldsway jars' by Stephen Barrow (29--31); Meso--Neo flints; Bronze Age pottery; `Quartz pebbles' by Damian Evans (37); `Charcoals' by Graeme Dumas (37); and radiocarbon dates. Landscape survey reports cover: `Topographic surveys' by Andrew Fulton, John Gale & Jeff Chartrand (39--40); `Geophysical surveys' by Bronwen Laughlin (41 & 43--4); aerial reconnaissance; and Billown stone circle.
