Abstract: |
In February 2007, North Pennines Archaeology Ltd was commissioned by SBD LLP to undertake a watching brief on land north of the Angel Inn. Human remains were uncovered and part of a medieval structure. As a result the development area was excavated uncovering a further human skeleton and the remains of five medieval buildings, a small horticultural plot of 12th-15th century date, and numerous areas of iron and bronze metalworking. Removal of the western boundary wall, excavation of four foundation pads and a service trench also showed evidence of industrial activity on the site in the medieval period. |
