Abstract: |
BR report on 1864 unlisted Congregational Chapel, incorporating an earlier 1793 chapel. Victorian frontage has neo-classical influences, but the main part is utilitarian. Large size attests to popularity of nonconformity in NE Essex up to WW2. Despite having been converted to light industrial use in 1970s, the chapel retained an extensive gallery and stair panelling, both lost in its recent conversion |
