Abstract:
Pre-Construct Archaeology (Lincoln) was commissioned by Response 24/7 to undertake an archaeological evaluation on land to the rear of 12-28 Bark Street and 3-13 Highgate, Cleethorpes, North East Lincolnshire prior to development of the land for residential purposes. The objectives of this evaluation were to monitor a single trench. All archaeological deposits identified during the excavations were subject to limited excavation, in order to assess their nature, dimensions and to facilitate the retrieval of datable finds. As a result of this work, contexts were identified and dated to between the 12th and 14th centuries AD. The key features include three linear ditches, one containing evidence of industrial activity (salt production and iron working) and two indicating possible field boundaries.
