Abstract: |
In the spring of 2008 a watching brief was carried out at 2 Chesham Road, Berkhamsted, Hertfordshire, during the construction of an extension (13 x 5m) to the rear of the existing property. During the course of excavating the foundations three brick-built structures and six pits were exposed. The structures consisted of a privy, a drain and sunken building dating to the late 19th/early 20th century. Two of the pits contained medieval shards, two contained post-medieval material while the remaining two pits are undated. The results are consistent with the post-Conquest land use of the area. |
