Abstract: |
In Feb. 2007 OA carried out a field evaluation at Corpus Christi college in advance of a new music room. A mortared stone structure, perhaps the defensive line of the late-Saxon burh was revealed and later defensive work including a localised re-build of the city wall from early 17th century.Evidence for 13th-14th century occupation was revealed through a possibe refuse pit which may have been part of the Shideyard Street properties. Post-medieval cess pits and later landscaping and garden work for the college was also seen. A W-E aligned inhumation potentially associated with St Frideswide's Priory was uncovered but not fully exacavted. |
