Abstract:		 Watching brief maintained during groundworks (topsoil stripping and trenching) prior to construction of raw water main. Initial metal detecting survey uncovered no evidence of archaeological activity. Sequence exposed: 0-300mm - topsoil, 300mm-800mm - colluvium, 800mm+ natural subsoil(shale). No features, deposits or dating evidence found to indicate archaeological activity.
