Abstract: |
An evaluation and building recording to the rear of Collin Croft yard, Kendal revealed that this area was developed in the second half of the 18th century with the construction of a stable with a raised cruck. To the south of the stable was a former plot boundary/drainage ditch of a similar date, south of which a cultivation soil was excavated that was developed between 1786 and 1853. A stone filled pit was cut into the cultivation soil, this was interpreted as a soakaway that post dated the cultivation soil. This area became a builders yard in the first half of the 20th century when varying depths of overburden/made ground above the cultivation soil indicate that this part of the plot was finally levelled. |
