Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was maintained during groundworks associated with a replacement water main between St Endellion (SW 99635 78486) and St Mabyn (SX 03567 72519), Wadebridge, Cornwall. The work was required by North Cornwall District Council and undertaken by Exeter Archaeology between July and October 2008. A total of 14 features were uncovered, most of which appear to be post-medieval or modern in date. A curved linear was uncovered and although no finds were recovered it is possible that it is prehistoric in date. Small quantities of residual medieval and post-medieval pottery; and worked flint were recovered throughout the route of the pipeline. Twenty-eight hedge banks were breached, all of which appeared to be post-medieval or modern in date. The areas between St Endellion and Trewethern, and the village of Lands and the A39 revealed little or no evidence of pre-1750 occupation. |
